In 19th-century England, 13-year-old Jim Hawkins lives with his mother, who has been running a small hotel in a port town since her husband's death. On a stormy evening, a mysterious guest arrives. He looks and acts like a pirate. He seems to be waiting for something, and every day he climbs the cliffs to look out into the distance. Jim finds the whole thing exciting and secretly watches him.
